What to Expect in Visiting an Orthodontist?

If your child is heading to their first orthodontist appointment they may have questions. Oshawa orthodontist can help fix bite issues and straighten your teeth.

Your first orthodontist appointment

You may get a tour of the office and introductions to the staff; this will usually put the child at ease.

Next, the orthodontist will examine your teeth and then take x-rays or digital x-rays taken.

You may have an impression taken of your mouth taken which helps the orthodontist determine the best possible treatment for your teeth and bite.

Following appointments

The follow-up appointments will have the dental appliance or braces placed and then to make adjustments with the braces or appliance. These appointments are generally arranged for every 6 to 10 weeks.

Your child will also need to continue their regular dental checkups and cleanings as well.

How braces work

Braces are adhered to your teeth with dental cement, then the wires and bands are adjusted to tightened to apply pressure on the teeth to straighten them.

Depending on your teeth, clear aligners such as Invisalign may work for you. This is a tray system.

Every couple of weeks you will switch trays. The big difference between the tray aligners and braces is that the trays are worn 20 to 22 hours a day. They can be taken out to eat and perform daily oral hygiene.
