Oshawa Dentist: How Do I Care for My Veneers?

How Do I Care for My Veneers?

Your Oshawa dental office that provided a composite veneers Oshawa gave you a great smile. However, the work isn’t over. It’s still important that you get the most out of those veneers by taking care of that smile. Taking care of your veneers is relatively easy, and we are going to show you how.

  • Keep your veneers clean. Keeping your veneers clean is one of the most important things you can do. This means regular brushing, flossing, and regular dental cleanings and checkups. Be sure to also get the right type of toothpaste. Gel toothpastes are preferable as they don’t have the grittiness like other types of toothpastes. The grittiness can eat away at your veneers over time. Poor dental hygiene can cause gums to recede, which means more tooth is exposed. The more tooth that is exposed, the more problematic it can be for your veneers.
  • Chew on This—Not That! Being mindful of your chewing is also really important. Avoid biting into hard objects with your veneers. So, if you’re someone who uses your teeth as a tool for more than just chewing, or if you often chew pens or pencils, or ice, then you could be damaging your veneers. Hard foods matter too, so don’t bite into raw carrots or apples, hard chips or meat with bone in it.
  • Use the Right Toothbrush. The soft bristle toothbrush is ideal for people with veneers. Brushing or scrubbing too hard as this can ruin the enamel of their teeth, so you can only imagine what would happen to your veneers. Make sure the bristles are soft and you brush in a circular motion on each tooth. The same goes for electric toothbrushes. Soft bristles are the way to go, and they’ll ensure your veneers last.
