Sedation Dentistry

Here at Harmony Dental Care in Oshawa, ON, we often see patients that are afraid of sitting down for dental work. If you’re one of these people, don’t worry. We can still help you get through your appointment. We use laughing gas sedation, which will help you relax and feel more at ease no matter what procedure you’re getting done..

What is Laughing Gas Sedation?

Laughing Gas Sedation is very common. It is a very mild form of sedation. You’ll be awake still, but the laughing gas will make you feel more comfortable and relaxed. In order to get the laughing gas, you’ll have a mask placed over your nose. Don’t worry, it’s perfectly comfortable. It will just allow you to inhale the sedation gas throughout your procedure. The amount of sedation is handled by us the entire time. Once the mask is removed, the effects of the sedation will go away almost at once. You won’t even need a ride home!

Who can have Laughing Gas Sedation?

Usually, the Harmony Dental Care team will use laughing gas for anyone who has a fear of dentists that’s so great that it prevents them from getting their necessary treatments. These patients can get sedated for anything from fillings to teeth extractions. For some cases, sedation can even be used for just regular cleanings.

Sometimes laughing gas can be used in other cases. For example, people who have sensitive teeth or a low pain threshold may want to use sedation alongside a local anesthetic for specific treatments. It can also be used for people who have a hard time sitting still in the dentist chair, or people with strong gag reflexes. Let’s not forget procedures that can take hours to complete, either!

Sedation Dentistry for Children?

If you’re wondering if sedation dentistry can be used for children… yes, it can! It’s perfectly safe. It can be a great choice for anxious or very young children. It’s especially good for those who have had a bad experience at the dentist before. The pediatric dentists are trained to offer laughing gas to children of any age.
