Tooth Desensitization Treatment In Oshawa, ON

Tooth sensitivity probably seems like a small problem to you, and something that doesn’t need treated. Though most people come to accept it as part of life, it can have a major impact on your quality of living, as you’re forced to avoid certain foods and beverages that can irritate your sensitivity. No longer do you have to just learn to live with it, though. Here at Harmony Dental Care in Oshawa, ON, we provide tooth desensitization that can be done in just one appointment!

Finding the Root of the Problem

The first thing we’ll need to do at Harmony Dental Care is to find out what’s causing your tooth sensitivity. Knowing the problem will allow us to use the right treatment.

The reason could be as simple as your oral hygiene habits. First, we’re going to make sure that you’re using the right brushing techniques and have a toothbrush that’s right for you. We’ll also find out if you’re using whitening products, as they can cause sensitivity.

You might also have gum disease. Gingivitis can cause gum recession, which will make the roots of your teeth exposed. You could also have a buildup of plaque and tartar. In both of these instances, we will probably recommend a good, thorough cleaning and scaling in addition to your tooth desensitization treatment.

There are a few other things that can cause sensitivity such as eating foods that are too acidic, having damaged teeth, or having recent dental work done at Harmony Dental Care (in which case the sensitivity should be temporary).

Treatment Options

First, we will put a special gel on your teeth that will desensitize them. This gel is going to strengthen your enamel and stop the nerve transmissions that cause the pain or discomfort. This process only takes a couple of minutes.

We may recommend additional ways to prevent sensitivity that you can do at home. This can include using specialized toothpaste, using a fluoride mouthwash, and avoiding certain trigger foods.

After this, we will need to focus on the underlying problem. If your teeth are damaged because of grinding during the night, we will custom craft you a mouthguard for nighttime wearing. If there’s tooth decay that’s causing the problem, we’ll give you a filling.
